Liberty Lofts - 383 Adelaide Street
The Liberty Lofts are a conversion from the old Gillette Razor Factory. 383 Adelaide Street East is a beautiful old style loft with enormous concrete columns and brick posts, and the original courtyard was maintained by installing a skylight. Parking is at a premium as there are only spaces for the penthouse lofts. Liberty Lofts are a great value in downtown Toronto.
Rarely can you find a more beautiful, old-style loft in the heart of downtown Toronto. The Liberty Lofts used to be the Gillette razor factory. Converted into lofts in 1990, it never lost its masculine feel. This is evident in the enormous concrete columns and brick posts that serve as its foundation.
The Liberty Lofts building is an amalgamation of two architectural styles composed of the original Gillete Razor factory and the warehouse. One building is a post and beam structure circa 1900 while the other is composed of fluted raw concrete columns, built around the 1920s. In between these buildings was a courtyard that has now been transformed into a covered sky-lighted atrium.
When the factory and warehouse was converted into lofts, Core Architects managed to preserve the original courtyard by installing a skylight. Now an atrium, the gorgeous courtyard can be seen as one rides up the elevator to their loft. Thirty-six of the forty-six lofts are large single bedrooms while the other ten are two storey, two bedroom penthouses. Virtually all of them possess a balcony. Unfortunately there is only parking for the penthouse dwellers. For its courtyard atrium, unconventionally large suites, and ideal location, Liberty Lofts is an exceptional buy.
